Changing interior trim

Featured Replies

Hey guys

I recently bought my first Fabia and it's safe to say I am falling in love with it already.  However!  As a bit of a cosmetic freak the interior is sending my brain haywire.  So here I am asking for input...

Is there a way to replace the Silver trim around the console, fans, etc?  Parts of it need reglued but to be honest I'd quite like to change it to a matte black if that's possible?

Is this doable?  Easy to DIY?  My first thought was to vinyl wrap it but parts of it seem to be just glued on plastic squidgy stuff!

Thanks in advance

Pete

Post a picture of the interior. As the interior is normally all black.

is this the yellow Vrs posted a little while ago?

The trims all prise out, buy yourself a Haynes manual for a simple step by step process.

I found a wide flat head screw driver with a piece of cardboard underneath to prevent scratching of the plastics, the easiest.

Some of the trims that you mention need re glueing may have lost some of their clips that hold them in place. As I don't think any trim is glued in (the gearstick top is the only thing I can think of).

Ok so it turns out a previous owner had the cd / vent surrounds etc - changed to silver.  Not sure why... Personal taste I guess.  Not for me - So I guess I can just remove each part that's silver taking care and vinyl wrap it however I like and refit?

Exactly that. Be careful prising them out, try and prise from a few different angles, so as not to snap any of the clips. There are a couple of really awkward metal ones that hold the centre vents in place, take care not to drop them as you remove the vent, they're a right faff to find behind the dashboard, and if left - rattle like you wouldn't believe.

You will have a better idea when you remove the trim and see what I mean.

Also remember to unplug the hazard light behind it before you remove it all the way, to ensure you don't snap/stretch it.

From what you said before - behind this silver later there is black plastic. So my assumption is that I can heat gun this silver **** off and take it back to original?

If if this is the case then win win as I wanted it black anyway so saves me money!

Where are you based, Shneeki?!?

I have a second Fabia and would happily swap my spare black vents for your silver ones?!?

Scottish Borders

Made the trip from Bristol up that way for some Brembo brakes and KW coilovers, vents just don't have the same pull :tongueout:

I don't understand why ;D  I'd be happy to heat gun them off and send you the pre cut sheets.  You'd just need to reglue them on - up to you but if you pay the postage it's no problem.w

Cheer for the offer but if they're gonna be pulled off I would prefer to either spray or wrap them myself :)

No problem :)

I'll probably wrap them myself at a later point.  Right now I just want rid of the silver trim. Was going to do it today but thought I'd wait and hear back from you so I knew what the plan was

Got the heat gun and alcohol cleaner ready :D

Thanks for the help guys

I used an old bank card to remove those trim bits then had them painted gloss black.
