I've done a quick search on here but couldn't quite find what I was after. 

 

I'm going to check my spark plugs tomorrow on my Octavia and I was having a quick look on europarts at different spark plugs, but have no idea where to start. Assuming I do need to change them, I wondered what I should look for in a plug? I'm keen to buy from eurocarparts just cause it's very easy and quick to find a part and collect it from their store just down the road! 

 

I read about copper vs platinum and I'm aware of the need for gapping occasionally, but wondered what kinds of spark plugs I should go for? They seem to vary from £3.50 up to three times that price, so I wondered whether it is worth paying the extra or buying cheap and changing more frequently? Any extra benefit to the more pricey ones I've found below?

Used Bosch plugs in my last car and was distinctly unimpressed with their short service life. NGK PFR6Q for me every time.

Also check GSF and Carparts 4 less before ordering from ECP. GSF seem to have 45-50% off every weekend, ECP normally 25-30% and CP4L sometimes 10-12%.

I fitted NGK BKR7E to mine (stage 1 remap, full exhaust) and it runs great.  

How is the stage 1 remap? How's economy and power compared to standard?

I bought the car with the map already on it and have never driven a standard VRS so can't compare but I have a feeling the map is fairly aggressive. Average mpg is 30, that's with short pootles around town, couple of motorway journeys and then hooning it down a/b roads in a fairly equal split. On the motorway I've seen it creep up to 40 for a journey. The power is amazing, at 3000rpm the car just opens up and rockets forward. I've had the car 4 or 5 months and it honestly still scares me on the twisties 

Another vote for the BKR7E! I've got stage 1 also and started with the basic 150bhp AUM. Its alot better with the map, better MPG, much better acceleration, I cant see any reason not to. Although you do need 99 RON petrol so reliant on being near Tesco or Shell. I can get 43mpg on the way to work at a steady 70 (75-80 indicated) on the motorway, my long distance mpg average is around 34mpg over 2000 miles.

The 2 other best mods ive done are the 312mm front brake upgrade and a 24mm adjustable whiteline rarb. It seriously reduces understeer to the point where they start handling with a good degree of composure.

I'd love to do a stage 1 remap, but I think my clutch might need doing first. I can't tell for sure if its going though. Seems to slip if I floor it in first but its ok in other gears, which perhaps isn't what to expect, I dunno.
