Odd noise through floorpan

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive had this odd noise for some time now.  At speed (can hear it most on smooth roads), I get a vibration/rumble/resonating sound through the floor on the drivers side which comes and goes.

The wheel bearings have been checked for play and have been spun.  Ive also checked the dogbone mount as this was a super pro one fitted many years ago.  I have swapped it also to no avail.  The tyres are also fine, no flat spots/eggs as theyre brand new only being a couple of years old (Goodyear).  It must be something on the drive train, driveshaft perhaps?

Im hoping its not the gearbox or diff!  I dont have any issues with selecting gears or odd whines either no leaks to speak of too.

O/S Engine mount starting to split?, can you play with the vibration on and off throttle or is it always there?.

Does it stop if you shift to neutral?. Is you PAS pump filled with oil ok?.

Believe PAS pump ok with level but will check that.  The noise is only apparent on the move which suggests its something on the drivetrain?

How to check the engine mount?  Looks quite enclosed

Also, no knocking or other weirdness when accelerating or braking?

When you get it, can you get rid of it by adding power, or coming off the throttle?. Shifting into neutral will eliminate the box but not the diff.

To check the engine mount get either a very long, stout screwdriver or a medium pry bar, place it into the gap between the part that bolts to the inner wing and the bit that bolts to the block. Carefully pry one bit against the other and look to see what happens to the rubber mount in between them. If it just moves and does not show any splitting then it is probably ok, however, if the rubber tries to either separate from the alloy mount, or the rubber is riddled with cracking like an old tyre sidewall, then it is probably ready to be pensioned off.
