Sat Nav software update

Featured Replies

Hi,

i have a 2016 L&K with the factory fitted sat nav unit. I think it's the Amundsen+, the one with 2 SD card slots.

I want to update the maps and I've downloaded the software from the Skoda site. I have decompressed the map data onto the original Skoda SD card and inserted it into the sat nav unit.

However when I try the Update function from the sat nav menu, it comes up with an error "Error: no data available. Please insert a source with software update data or check the source". I have tried several times to re-download and unpack the files on to the SD card without success.

The sat nav seems to work ok despite this error, although I have lost all my previous saved destinations.

Has anyone successfully managed to update this unit and retained their saved destinations ? If so, could you please let me know how you did it ?

many thanks

Have you seen this thread in the Technical Guides section?

You need a skoda sd card

You just need to insert the card for the update to work.
No need to do any updating on the Amundsen II that you have, it reads from the card not copied to the head unit..

Look at the thread I started as suggested by Graham.  Read to the end though as the process has simplified slightly since my initial guide and I updated the thread accordingly.  You don't need to 'do' anything with the head unit (apart from check the map version to ensure you don't already have the latest ones).  Just take the card out, update it using your computer and put it back in the car.  The update menu you are referring to is nothing to do with updating the maps, this is a software update of the actual Nav system itself and has to be done by a dealer with the relevant source data.  Also note that when you reinsert the map SD card after the update, none of your saved destinations will work and will need to be deleted and re-input.

Brilliant, thanks everyone for responding. I hadn't realised that I don't need to run the update on the Sat Nav unit itself, it's just a case of inserting the updated SD card. I checked the map versions on the Sat Nav and they seem to be the latest ones, so looks like it has worked. It's a shame that the process trashes the saved destinations, but at least the updates are free.

It's not just a shame, it's pathetically diabolical!

Yes, not keeping the destinations is a poor show.

I wonder if you save the contents of the card before updating to the PC first, then update the card, whether you can then put the saved destinations back onto the updated card?

I've not bothered to update my sat nav so far but must do it before the free updates run out.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they won't

I thought initially that they were free for life but seem to remember (but I've been caught out before!) that some posts have said that it's only for 3 years?

For us it was free only for the fixed price servicing warranty period.

As for losing all your saved destinations....what a crock!
