Variable or fixed service if keeping the car?

Featured Replies

Hi, I will be the proud owner of a S3 i the next few weeks. I have it on a 42 month PCP and depending on my circumstances I may keep this vehicle at the end of the agreement. I do approx 15k miles per year and I am currently on a fixed service regime on my Octavia III. I was thinking about changing to variable servicing since I do more miles than the average person but I have read that this is not a good idea if I there is a possibility I will keep it since it may cause turbo problems etc down the line.

Is it best to stay with fixed on the new one? It just seems that I was forever taking my car in for a service on my current pcp and I feel like its a bit of overkill.

Will it be harder to sell the car if its been on variable servicing?

Stick it on long life /varible with that mileage.

I agree, go with variable.  As long as you service it when indicated by the car it should be fine.  Of course, always keep on eye on oil etc yourself anyway in between services.

Silly question, but how can you tell what service regime you are on ? Mine was second hand.

Thanks for the replies. Is it true that people who buy second hand cars avoid variable service cars though? Don't want to have trouble selling it in years to come if I decide to keep it after pcp has finished.

To know what Servicing your car is on looking at the MFD to see when the service is due should give an idea what it was set on.

Fixed will be withing 9,400 miles (10,000) or 372 days. So Fixed can not show a period beyond that.

Variable will show what it shows.

I am in the same position as you - 42 month pcp, 15K per year (lots of motorway driving). I was a bit concerned about the first service being so far away and the dealer I bought mine from suggested that as the first service may not be until 18k miles, that I had the first service done at 10k, then went to variable after that. Sounded a good idea to me.
