Dead columbus RNS

Featured Replies

My RNS in my Skoda Superb won't work after a flat battery I've checked fuses at the side of the dash and in the engine bay and electric supply is there . it won't start or even ask for a code., It's just dead. Can anybody help please?

It's not uncommon for the older units to just suddenly die. If you look at the top right hand button on the front, is it a small graphic of a microphone, or is it a small graphic of a speaker with a letter i next to it?

Hi rustynuts

small microphone

Well, it's unusual for that to happen then. Usually the other ones lay down and die, but that's not to say yours hasn't as well. Did you use jump leads on the car by any chance? Have you removed the unit and checked the fuse on the back of the unit (but I can't recall if that's relevant or not)? Have you got a diagnostics system such as vcds to run a scan on the car for fault codes?

The only other option I can suggest is send it up to me and I'll have a look at it for you, see what's happened.

Hi Rustynuts

I did use Jump leads, Is there a fuse on the back?

Lordoftheinn

Yep, remove the trim/surround with a plastic tool (or an old credit card), unscrew the 4 Torx T20 screws, pull the unit forwards, and disconnect the plugs on the rear. Here's a quick vid to show you how...

Then you'll see the small blade fuse in the rear quadlock connection.

It's not the fuse

Then most likely it's blown one (or more) of the boards inside.

As I said, you can send it to me and I'll run some checks on it and let you know what the situation is.

How do I get it to you.

I'll send you a message.
