Hoping someone can advise me.  I just bought a used Octavia 2014 TDI 2.0 Estate from Car Giant with 30k miles on clock.  Drove it to France first time on motorway yesterday.  It makes a weird growling noise at motorway speeds when I steer left - it is sustained during long left turns on motorway and then subsides as I straighten up again.  It doesn't seem to happen on right hand turns.  The noise is something like what you might get if you strayed onto a rumble strip on a motorway and it's quite loud and disturbing.  Obviously I'll take it to a local dealer in France but wondering if anyone has encountered this before?

Might be:

 

1. Wheel bearing - are known to be a weak point on these cars, especially if they've hit a few kerbs... Get the car on a lift, or jack up each corner with a trolley jack and spin the wheel, you'll soon hear a bad one by the rumble noise.

 

2. Tyres might be unevenly worn or saw-toothed. Have a close look at the tread, see if its evenly worn. Could swap the wheels front to back. Beyond that its new tyres and a geometry check.

 

I had an 06 Mondeo that growled quite badly on French motorways, but it wasnt really noticeable in England. Maybe it didn't like the French....maybe because it was made in Belgium...lol
