Rattle In Dashboard Behind Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

Recently my Skoda VRS has a very loud squeaking/knocking noise that sounds like its eminating deep into the dashboard behind the steering wheel column. It more prominent when changing gears in 1st and 2nd and also going over bumps. The car feels fine, but the sound is definately not normal. If I push up and down on the suspension that side it does it but not as prominantley. Could it be the engine mounts?? Manifold?? Suspension?? Something to do with the steering column?? I have contacted my local Skoda dealer as the car is still under warranty, but he says he cannot fit me in till the end of November (4 weeks away) and that I should contact the AA to ss if they can fix it. This sounds ludicrous. Any help would be appreciated.

Try a different dealer?

Rob.

Who'ss the dealer? Wouldn't be Northampton by any chance?

4 WEEKS? Thats f*****g ridiculous. I was pi55ed off when mine told me I had to wait 2 weeks for my lock change, and then they kept ringing me saying they hadn't had the part delivered - took six weeks in the end. :( As for telling you to get the AA out - you can imagine what the hell they're going to say...

You sure the squeak is not coming from the central air vents? - deffo the behind the steering wheel? - If it was the vent, I would have said it was that dashboard mount problem again... PS: Which I know how to "cure"

edit: welcome to the site BTW - just noticed it was your first post - I got a bit carried away...

"Have you changed you headlight bulb recently, sir?"

I think that was probably just to you... :p ;)

LadyLoki, it is Northampton and you have obviously had the same issues. If I had known the response would be so long I would not have bought the car.

Robmawer, no I have not changed anything. I have done more research and it looks like it could be point towards the anti roll bar bushes.

Devonutopia, no definately not the central airvent, thanks anyway

gtaustin - LadyLoki (or Niki as she's known in the real world) works for Skoda Customer Services. So she should be able to help you with your dealer problems... :)

I have my first rattle too - after 15k kms. Or rather, creek or scratch or what should I call it. It's the roof lining not quite doing its sticky job against the roof in some places!

So I can't do the usual nah-nah-nah-nah-nah job with the local Seat boys anymore... :(

Rob - No comment.... Or not at least "no comment" that would get me kicked off the forum. :p :D

Sorry to hear it's not the airvent, as that's quite an easy thing to cure. :( Sounds awkward.

my roof lining has also started un-sticking from the roof. anyone with a suggestion on a permanent solution?
