New Car's APR Rates

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am potentially looking to change the wife's car and will be looking at a Citroen Space Tourer (sorry not a Skoda but they don't do anything big enough with at least 3 isofix in the back....) we have been quotes 6.9% APR from the dealer on PSA Finance but were wondering if they have any flexibility to change the rate?

I can get the Peugeot equivalent, Peugeot Traveller, from a dealer for 1.9% APR but only on a new vehicle with no discount.  Now obviously the discount in purchase price more than offsets the higher APR but I never like paying what a dealer wants.  I can get a similar PCP arrangement through Halifax for 4.4% APR but dealing with the dealer is the easiest option.  Do you think that he is likely to be able to change the rate I know that friends have managed to get the APR changed when buying BMW bikes by threatening to walk away from the deal....?

Thanks

Nigel

Just out of interest did you check a SEAT Alhambra, it has 3 seats with isofix in the back?  (and then 2 more seats behind if needed)

Citroen Space Tourer does look good.

Depending on amount you want to have on loan ,would a personal back / building society be a better option. Also Sainsbury's do a 3.6 % apr

Only a thought

We have a Grand Scenic - 3children (plans for a fourth), 2dogs, and wanting a reasonable boot we need to go bigger....

We are looking at personal loans as well - good deals offered from Halifax and Tesco - but off setting part of the cost (PCP) makes the payments a bit more affordable.

VW Sharan did us proud for many years with 5 kids, (yes 5) could squeeze in a hound as well .Not a Newfoundland or similar though

Life would be fine without car seats and pushchairs.....

They might have wiggle room on the finance. You just have to ask.

Personal loan will almost certainly be cheaper but will delay the purchase (can take a wee while to come through especially the cheap ones) and is less flexible.

My experience of supermarket is that the agreement may not always be the advertised rate. Sainsbury`s were quoting 2.9% but the agreement was 6.3%! I declined and went with 3.9% from Natwest which is what was advertised and arranged.

Moneysavingexpert website has a 'soft search' that will give you an idea of how likely you are to get the advertised rate (doesn't guarantee it).

Noddle.co.uk lets you check your credit score for free. Again that'll give you an idea of how likely you are to be offered the best rates.

Banks have to give the advertised rate to 2/3 of applicants.

You have to be wary of applying for and rejecting loans too many times, the application goes on your credit record even if you don't take it out. Too many application will start to affect your credit rating making it harder to get the best rates.

Don't know about the French cars but I've been looking at a Fiesta for my "brother in law" and Carwow quotes are coming in at about 3k off and 0% finance.

Might be worth running your build through carwow to see what dealers will really offer.

Also so not sure but the 0% from Ford might be available on the MPVs.

We've run it through carwow and can get it to about £25% off of list price!
