Downloaded programs

Occasionally STB gets to remind SWIMBO that she can only record two programs at a time ,and she looses all or part of them . I can easily download them and ones on ITV play in full screen on the PC. But PC is in my "den", upstairs and STB is old, non stream type. Add to that is that PC connection on TV is serial type and I'm not sure if PC has a serial port. Simple solution would be to save download to USB stick and play on DVD player , but past few times I've tried that ,DVD sees stick and content, but says no. Solution might be a new STB with iplayer capacity , UNLESS someone can suggest another way.

Chromecast or a Kodi box is what SWMBO uses downstairs to either stream stuff directly from the net, stream downloaded files from our NAS drive or she chromecasts stuff from her phone. More often than not, it's a either a straight stream off from the NAS drive or I stick the entire season on a USB stick for her and she just plugs it into the Kodi and away she goes.

The Sky box is rapidly becoming nothing more than an power vampire. I suspect that once she's watched this years Tour de France she'll tell me to pull the plug on it as she can watch everything Sky offers up, and more, for a fraction of the cost.

Seen a HUMAX 1800 on their site (refurb with 12 months warranty)- which allows streaming. Now all I've got to do is tape over the ON/OFF switch before Swimbo tries ( as she's done regularly) to use it to turn off telly.

For anyone interested in using the Humax portal /streaming facility- Humax do offer a dongle at £39 . However, if you head over to e bay, and find a R2T2 dongle with a RT3070 chipset , you can get one for less than £10 , which will work.
