Abnormal brake-pad wear

Featured Replies

Hi,

I heard grinding from the front brakes and when I look at the pads I see this. I took my Superb 4x4 1.9L TD to the dealer and they said it is NORMAL?

The leading edge of the pad has no coating left and the trailing edge is fat like new.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks,

Jon

Its hard to tell from the photo but pads do have a chamfer on each of the shortest sides which can make it look like the pad is wearing unevenly. That said, it does look a bit wedge shaped.

Whats the other side like? Whats the year and mileage?

It's a 2015 Skoda Superb 4x4 combi 19. TDI and it's driven about 27000kms.

Surely correct pad wear should display a parallel thickness to the metal backing plate. This appears to be practically unworn on one side and worn-out on the other.

Thanks,

Jonathan

I would take the brake pad out and physically measure it.

If you look at this picture you can see how the chamfer on a new brake pad gives the illusion that the pad is wedge shaped. It may just be wearing faster than the other side due to it binding slightly, or slight manufacturing differences of the pad.
