Cabin fan speed going crazy

Featured Replies

Hello,

I just bought a used Fabia 1.2 tdi (2012) - loving it so far - with climatronic system. When I set the fan speed to certain speed, lets say 50%, the fan keeps switching between 0% and 50% in about 1 or 2 second intervals. It does the same with any setting i can think of (fan speed, "auto" mode on or off, AC on or off... ). Also it doesn't matter if it is during a direct sunlight or at night...

Do you know what could cause this? It gets very annoying.

Not had that but had fan go "Off" and on at random intervals, eventually staying off. Climatronic system too. Eventually I had diagnostics reveal fan/blower motor faulty so had to fit new fan.

Full dash out job on climatronic systems, i'm afraid and at a cost of around £530! Dunno about Dutch mechanic pricing structures but not too cheap! You can press two buttons simultaneously and that will give you a fault code which might give you a starting point. Ask a dealer/specialist what fault that code points to. They will still wnt to perform a proper diagnostic but it is a start. Mine I think, was 4f9.

do you know which buttons I need to press? I found diagnostic menu under combination of "AC" "head blower" "legs blower" but I don't know the button combination for error codes which would work on my unit and I cant find it anywhere. My unit looks like this: http://imgur.com/a/wJcOE

Thats a slightly newer version to mine but similar. I think you press the recirc and the ac buttons at same time, holding a few seconds. I can double check but I think it was them. My ac button actually says econ and the heat/fan dials are on opposite sides to yours. This means you can't upgrade my older face with no chrome to yours. Mine is green, yours is white I think but fundamentally, still fully automatic climatronic system.

unfortunately that doesnt work. I tried any combination I could think of. I think I was fingering the buttons for 20 minutes before I gave up on it. I picked the white one on purpose, I dont like the green lights in fabias, and now it is coming back to hunt me...

I will double check but if there is no self diagnosis on yours then its down to a dealer or auto electrician to find the code via on board diagnostics I guess.

Yeah, press econ (auto) and the recirculation button together at exactly the same time, for around three or so seconds.

unfortunately that doesn't work  I really dont wanna pay 50 euros for diagnostics but i might not have a choice
