Octavia II SE Central Locking

Featured Replies

Evening all

As above: this morning I went out and unlocked the car (see the signature) with the remote fob with no problem. However, ever since then, I can sometimes lock the door remotely but can never unlock it remotely.

When I then unlock the door with the key, I can only get the driver's door to open, and then I have to put the key in the ignition and turn it ON, and then I can unlock the doors with the central console button.

OTOH. when sitting in the car, I can lock/unlock all the doors with the central console buttons and so the actual locks are receiving the relevant bus control signals and are working.

Ran a VCDS test, and most things are working (apart from a couple of minor - presumably unrelated - functions such as an intermittent interior sensor and the open-circuit driver's door mirror heater circuit which have been like that for the last couple of years), but I was getting "No response" from Controller 35, which, I think, is the  Central Locking controller.

This sounds like a fob battery issue and/or a controller issue to me but I'm not at all sure?

Any suggestions?

NB 1: I have thought of disconnecting the car battery for an hour or two, and then reconnecting it, in order for the system to totally reset, as early last year I had a problem with the car turning over but not starting - reported on the forum - and that solution did eventually seem to fix it, and so might that fix this problem as well?

NB2 : the car battery is a quite-recent large Bosch S4, and seems fine.

Thanks in advance

Disconnected the battery around 10am this morning, and reconnected it around 5pm - but no change and the problems are still there.

Any ideas anyone ("Pretty please"!)?

Er :wondering:..............try a new fob battery..............

Maybe then ask further if that doesn't solve the issue.

With the key in the door, if you twist it twice quickly it should unlock all doors in the meantime.

Tilt

Thanks

Having now looked up how to change the battery, I will do that (plenty in my photo cupboard).

Unfortunately, however, I don't think battery failure would explain the fact that there appears to be no response (via VCDS or a separate handheld code reader) from Controller 35 which seems to run the central locking system.

BTW: I also think that unlocking the driver's door with the key does not appear to unset the alarm system, and that only happens when the key is inserted into the column lock and twisted - but I will check that again.

Looks like my latest post got canned when I tried to edit.

However, I have now changed  the fob battery (the old one still had 3V in it), and checked that the central locking fuse in the passenger fuse box is OK.

The only other thing I can think of which might have affected the situation is that I sprayed white grease into the exterior apertures of the driver's door lock about 2 weeks ago - that's about 10 days before this problem cropped up.

  • 2 weeks later...

Stupid question.... You know you need to press unlock twice to open all doors?

Fraid it was a stupid question as I've been driving that vehicle for 5 yrs!

OTOH, the system does now seem to be working again for some unknown reason - but still no responses from the Central Locking controller under either VAGCOM/VCDS or the separate handheld code reader
