Front Steering / Suspension / Driveshaft Noise

Featured Replies

Today, just after parking, as it just started chucking it down with rain, my car made some very strange noises from the font nearside. It was a few metres after I had straightened up after tight full left hand lock at car park speed less than 5mph. It sounded to me to be the front left wheel/ driveshaft / suspension / brake.  It was a pinging metal sound. It did it several times and seemed to be relating to wheel rotation, it got less and when I stopped the car around 100 metres further on,  I was expecting the brake backing to have been pulled off and banging against rotation with the wheel. But both on front look to be intact. nothing hanging underneath car at all much to my surprise!

Drive about 1 mile to another stop and everything seemed ok. Then another 1 mile home and heard another ping as we turned right into our road.

Obviously I'll have to lift it on the trolley jack in the morning, hopefully when there is less rain.  Does this sound familiar to anyone other than the usual suspects, brake backing plate, broken Spring. I'm just unsure about the pinging metal sound moving with tyre rotation. Could be a large pebble too I suppose our drive is gravel....

The sounds were "pings" and "twangs". So after thinking about this I'm thinking the spring has broken or the top mount bearing is seized?
