It pays to look around.....

Featured Replies

The insurance on my non-Skodas came up for renewal.

One remained quite comparable to the previous year, but I've sold the car (finally) so no insurance required.

The other, with a couple of adjustments, lept considerably. (Late £400's from mid £300's) So, I went and compared some meerkats, and got nearly £200 off. Needless to say, there was little point in calling back to find out if they could match the quote, as if it had been matched, from that sort of difference, it would demonstrate some fairly epic profiteering.

Lessons.

Don't assume your present insurer/broker will have your interest at heart at the next renewal.

Always, always, always search and compare. It only takes a few minutes, and you can save the details for next time, to make things quicker.

Don't assume that specialist insurers (or site sponsors) are the best for you, if you have a bog-standard (i.e. no mods) car.

I can relate to all of this above re car insurance, I always go round the houses for the best deal.

Related and keeping on the subject of insurance, my house unsurance.

I renewed recently with the same company. When I got the renewal through the post I immediatly went online to try get a better deal, I did and it was with the same company.

Renewal letter said £120

Online quoted price £90

So guess which price I paid? Same company, same policy, same everything (I checked all the details, docs, small print etc)

This morning I get a letter from my insurers, "thank you for insuring with us once again, here's vouchers to spent when shopping at Sainsburys"

They are £25 of vouchers, no conditions on what you buy or how you spend them and last for 12 months. So I'm off sometime this week to buy £25 worth of beer, a bonus.
