Diagnostics Advise

Featured Replies

I'm taking the car in to Skoda next week to have the boot issue looked at.

A bit of background on this; when the boot is open the car doesn't recognise this and locks itself resulting in the alarm going off. It happens 8/10 times I open it and often one of the curtousy lights fails to illuminate without being given a knock. Sometimes I can play with the latch on the boot and it'll realise it's open leading me to think this is a wiring issue.

Skoda are wanting to charge £70 odd for diagnostics, when I asked what this would entail I was told they would plug it in to the computer to see if any faults were registered.

Now I'm not familiar with Skodas diagnostic system and I've done my best to point them in the rite direction with the fault. I'm hoping someone can advise me on whether or not this will pick out the fault as I'm very skeptical and don't want to be charged £70 odd when they may know full well it won't pick up what I've described. Especially when I can't claim diagnostics back as part of my warranty package (RAC).

Thanks in advance.

If anyone can help me out on this I'd really appreciate it.

I'd rather take it to an independent garage than fork out for "plug in" diagnostics at Skoda that will not pick up this type of fault as they appear to want to do this in the first instance.

Where in the country are you? You could always try a local forum  member with a VCDS cable (VW diagnostic software) first, to see if it finds any fault codes.

I decided to take it to an independent specialist in the end. They diagnosed and replaced the faulty boot latch with a genuine replacement as I needed it doing asap really. I will bare this option in mind for any future issues though. Thanks.

Speaking to the mechanic first hand and explaining the issue, he was pretty certain it would be the latch which I guess saved me some pennies over a main dealer due to the process involved with their diagnostics and the cost involved.

The issue with the bulb is just that, so I will look to replace throughout with LEDs. Will have a search and see how others have got on with this.
