Skoda Octavia Hot Start

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am new the this forum as I recently bought an Octavia (2006 1.9PD). I have been reading a lot about the "Hot Start" issues and I have been trying all possible options to diagnose.

So far I have replaced the battery, reconditioned the starter, replaced the coolant temperature sensor and the lambda sensor but I still have the same issue. The only other option which I have been reading about is the camshaft position sensor, is it worth replacing?

Any ideas or opinions much appreciated.

I lived with it for years with my Golf but eventually it got really bad to the point where it took a lot of cranking instead of just the usual extra few seconds so I changed the starter for a brand new one and it was the best it had ever started.

Hi SuperbTWM,

Cheers for the quick response. I got my starter reconditioned for a reliable auto electrician in my area; is a reconditioned starter not just as good as buying a new starter?

Put my money on crankshaft sensor.

Friend's Audi 1.9 had same problem. Changed the sensor all is good.

I guess that depends on how well it has been reconditioned.

Hi Kris82,

Replaced the camshaft sensor today, started when warm not a problem. Drove a bit and left it and went back out to start it after 20-25mins later and the problem was/is back . Did your mate change the crankshaft or camshaft sensor?

Deffo camshaft. Sorry to hear problem still there. Have you tried to search for codes since changing?

Finally got this problem sorted, turns out it was the DMF.. I recently replaced the clutch and flywheel, swapping from SMF to DMF and noticed the problem shortly but never made the connection. Got my mechanic to throw in my old clutch and no problem since I am glad to say. Now I have another battle, getting  €650 from the motor factors.. :dull:
