2nd gear noise 1.6 TDI

Featured Replies

Just noticed a slight whine from 2014 1.6tdi manual when letting the foot off the accelerator. Every other gear is fine and as soon as you put the foot back on the gas the noise disappears. Car has 29k on the clock and just wondering does anyone elses have this noise.

I had a similar noise in my Superb, thinking I would get a new gearbox I took it to the dealer and to my surprise they had it in bits and replaced the 2nd gear syncro and bearings.

The 2nd gear whine is now gone and now I have a whine developing that you can hear in all gears so hopefully you will not be as unlucky as me.

If is not in warranty I would live with it, its not worth the hassle of them making your gearbox worse at your expense. If it is in warranty you could possibly get them to look at it but I think when a gearbox isn't right they should change the whole thing and not mess about wasting everybodys time with ongoing problems.

Thanks for the reply as I say it's only very slight so I think I'll live with it. Previous car a 1.2tsi Fabia done it as well and never really got any worse.
