Nissan leaf 4 day test

Featured Replies

Currently day 2 into a 4 day test drive ....

I want one of these that's all I can say

Tbh I didn't know what to expect when I first got In bit the feel of the car is perfectly normal granted it's not the prettiest bit the face lift next year is better looking

Cameras in every corner

Led headlights

Full leather with heated front and rear seats

Range when I got in was 120 miles ok so I floored and was amazed just how quick it was (like I say I wasn't sure what I was expecting)

Slowed of down a bit and put in eco mode plus max regen braking and the range went up did about 60 miles with 60 still showing and went to charge it

Had it on charge for a few hours at home and it went to 80miles nipped to lidls and plugged in for free and charged it up to max

Strange thing I have found so far some places charge £1.20 connection fee others are free

I'll give my final thoughts on Saturday but as it stands i want one of we can make the numbers work

Next year's range is set to be even bigger with the 2020 model set to crack 350 miles per charge

Having driven conventional engines for the last 25 years I was shocked as to how much sense these cars will make not today but in the next few years everyone will be having one

I look forward to having an EV but at the moment the prices are just too much.  Are you planning on doing a good distance in it this weekend?

I'd love an electric (or perhaps hybrid) car. I'm certainly bored of diesel but our company are continuing to run fully diesel (transport company so it makes sense)

Well just got back from nearly 200 mile round trip visit to family
Total cost a few pennies a load of charging at the relatives plus a top up  courtesy of lidls I shop there as well

Our lass who is usually apprehensive of new cars loves it too
The back seats are very comfy long distance and it has a more than capable boot

In b+eco mode (maximum regen ) the range is fantastic and requires virtually no braking as the engine/ motor braking is increased for maximum regen braking

Fantastic 7 speaker Bose sound system that's crisp and punchy

reading the blurb in the car Nissan warrant the battery to not lose any charging ability for 5 years and the units them selves have a 10 warranty same applies for the motor how much power they would lose after 5 years is unknown so range could plummet

plus the cost of the damn thing the model i had was a tekna 30kwh with all the bells and whistles on and its circa £31k and the kicker is the depreciation i found a 1 year old exdemo with 8000 miles for £17k  thats a hell of a kick in the nuts after one year

so to summarise would i but one if the deal was right today ????

Not sure

It's also a question of infrastructure on all levels really

1) a few years ago from what I understand you had an abundance of chargers as ev were quite rare i think it was 4 chargers to one car  not so now but no massive increase in charging points and a lot don't work

current estimates are 5 -6 cars per one public charger

Plus some car parks have non electric cars parked in the charging bays due to lack of spaces (this according to ev forums is called iced)

2) the general consensus on ev forums is that those free chargers are there for them to park and leave the car charging when not shopping at store etc (there is even a thread which list 24 carparks with free parking

So all charging points in alot of  town centres are currently full all day by commuters as let's be honest most people wouldn't go back to the car and move it once it's fully charged so it causes issues when day shoppers come in to town so that needs addressing

3) the home charging thing is great but for those who don't have a drive or even live in flats that's where the problems will begin and also you will need a dedicated plug socket as trailing an extension is not suitable as the extension wire can get warm (as we found out today) plus some plonker is bound to trip over the wire across the pavement

I do believe that manufacturers will pay towards a socket for people who have a drive etc for the unit but the cost for wiring to the mains is not

for those who live with no off street parking  £2.5 million is available at the minute for councils to install one but the criteria is there needs to be public demand which there would if you bought one but it could be installed at the opposite end of the street and once the cars start coming down in price which they will the charger at the end of the street will be full

if anyone is serious about driving one please do its a real eye and wallet opener (not all dealers offer a 4 day test drive)

mercedes are testing electric sprinter sized vans main problem is weight it takes them over the 3.5tonnes but the range is said to be huge

Got a Nissan electric van but range is only 100 miles. Good for local runs.

Well it's all gone back

Sat down with sale executive and we worked a deal

It was the last one they had before the new model comes and he said there was big demand for it (usual trick) but to be fair to him I did hear a few people asking about them.while there

Research showed that the leafs depreciation is horrendous 59% in the first year alone so lease seemed the better bet

3k down and £380 A month was a lot.more than expected and on the whole the saving in fuel plus the potential of free parking in Nottingham centre next still didn't make the deal work

And in the fact I won't qualify for a free install of a charging point due to not have off street parking we estimated £6-800 for a dedicated socket new consumer unit plus wiring approx 40 metres just made it not work for us at this time

So are you having one? It reads like you are not?

Oops missed that off

No not at this time

The electric car market is in turmoil in the UK compared to Europe

I'll look at it again in a year or two

  • 2 months later...
