I'm new to this car so I don't want to break it. I have removed the pipes and clips either side and the MAF socket but the Air filter housing just refuses to release itself from the engine. Please could someone help as to what I do next?

Are you just replacing the standard panel filter? There's no need to remove anything, just undo several screws around the edge of the box, I think it's a Phillips head and they don't need to come out all the way

It was the rubber fixings holding the panel filter to the engine which I was unaware of but i am now thanks. 

Assume you have the TFSI engine with the air filter integrated into the engine cover?

 

You need to say what you've got as there are differences between engines.

yes is is a TFSI Petrol and I am aware now about the rubber mountings holding the casing down
