front offside wheel bearing

Featured Replies

My offside front wheel bearing has gone , how difficult are they to replace ? was hoping to try and do this myself ,also which bearing would be the best as car euro parts will do it for around £80.00

thanks Craig

Depends on if it's the 3 bolt or 4 bolt set up on the rear of the hub them bolts can be seriously tight to remove but it's not that difficult to do

It’s the 4 bolt

NSR is a good make of one.

The fitting and removal isn't to complicated but a would recommend using a torque wrench on refitting to get the correct settings.

But apart from that it's pretty much straight forward

Spelling mistake

The torque settings for the 4 bolts is 70nm then a further 90degrees if that helps

Thanks

You need new bolts as these are probably stretch bolts. Do not be tempted to reuse the old bolts.

tried and failed could not get  those 4 bolts on the bearing to budge , so looks like a trip to the garage ..

My wife's 2009 VRS is due a front wheel bearing, got a light whine about the n/s.

What's different about these than doing an ordinary bearing?

These ones r held in with either 3 or 4 bolts.

other bearings r pressed in or out of the hub

I see, so I'm assuming you replace the bearing complete with hub attached?

What makes the bolts difficult to undo.....are they just super tight or is access restricted?

Apologies if the above are stupid questions.

Yes they r all 1

What makes the 3 or 4 bolts to come out is purely rust a have just replaced both fronts on mine today.

Which side r u doing

You need the right sized torx bit and a long bar to undo the bolts, make sure you clean out the bolt heads to get full engagement with the torx bit, also use penetrating oil the day before, quite easy to do once you have the drive shaft bolt out and dropped the lower ball joint, the higher you can get the car the easier it is to use a long breaker bar.

Thanks guys, I understand now and have just viewed a few on ebay so know what you mean.

Does the bottom ball joint need disconnecting for access to one or more of the torx bolts?

I think it's the N/S I'll be doing, it's not apparent until it's been driven for a good few miles .

That 1 will need the bottom ball joint removed (i e) the 3 nuts to get the cv joint out of the hub

Of course, wasn't thinking.
