Octavia FL tdi dsg only takes up drive when warm. Any ideas

Featured Replies

Good evening folks. I have the chance of a 61 plate Octavia 2.0tdi dsg estate ex taxi.  The car is tidy enough and has around 170 k on the clock. The only fault is it will only actually take up the drive ( ie move under its own steam) when the engine has warmed up - usually between 10-15 minutes. You can stick it in drive and give it some throttle and it just stays motionless. I don't think it has had its gearbox oil changed, certainly not by the last owner. I was wondering if anyone could advise as to what the problem could be. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

The dsg box is obviously stuffed. Could be faulty mechatronics unit , sensors, worn out wet clutch(es), blocked filter, low oil, etc.

You should price in for new or refurbed box and fitting if I were you.

No, if I were you I would just walk away.....

Thanks for the reply. Once it's warm the gearbox works fine, changes smoothly etc. Apparently it has had "a sensor" changed but which one I have  no idea. I've read up that there was a software update for these boxes but whether it's had it I don't know. Will know more tomorrow. Just wondered if anyone else on here has had the same problem. Thanks

I haven't heard of that problem before.  There have been posts before with faulty ABS sensors causing difficulty shifting up gears when in motion. No oil / filter change history is a bad sign.  You could also try to call a specialist transmission repair place with DSG experience and enquire if that specific symptom rings any bells.  Post back here if there is any useful response!
