Water ingress - fog light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So, we’ve had lots of wet weather & standing water here in Somerset recently. My near side front fog light has let some water in and is full of condensation.  2014 vRS. This is the lower down unit underneath the bigger headlight / DRL / indicator unit.

How easy is this to access / take out and then clean and dry out?  Any advice would be appreciated as always!

(Have taken a pic but it won’t load - “you're only allowed to load up to 737.28kb”!)

Cheers.

The grille beneath pops out easy enough, use the funny P shaped wire tool thingy-whatsit from the spare wheel toolkit (if you have one) to poke into the little access hole, and out it comes.

After that I dunno, you can just about remove the bulbs from there, they've got poxy awkward clips on the back of them (two bulbs each side on vRS) but it could be a bumper off job to dismount the foglight...

Would a heatgun (missus's hairdryer ;) ) do the trick from outside?

Thanks @pist0nbr0ke for your response.

Spoke to my Indy today - totally trust them.

Their view was that once the seal on the unit is gone, it’s probably cheaper in the long run to just replace it.

£75.15 plus VAT for the part, £16.50 plus VAT to fit (must be a simple job).

£109 all in. Seems the best (and simplest)  option. Booked in on Friday.

Sheesh, nice one...most on here reckon it's bumper off to replace the foglight bulbs even...I managed mine with some serious jiggery pokery through the lower grilles, even then I bust at least one bulb clip. Let us know how it goes.

If they find it's a bigger job, hold them to their quote!

I will. Cheers bud.

To be fair, they haven’t let me (or numerous mates) down yet.

If all is as quoted, I’ll share their thoughts on how to do it and post up the link to their website!

@pist0nbr0ke well, you were right - well partly so!

The foglight on the offside is accessible from the rear, but the nearside one is not because the windscreen washer reservoir is in the way. So it was a bumper off job after all.

Fair play to my Indy though, job done for £109 as promised!

Car now mint & treated it to a clean today.

Happy days.

Fair play to them for honouring the deal, buy them a

Hopefully for them this sort of thing doesn't happen too often, or they'll go bust! I wonder if they confused it with a Mk2 (which was easier I think)?

They are a reasonably big business and have benefited from me sending them at least 10 customers, some of whom have become regulars.

Even a mate of mine from Grenoble, who runs a 2002 S6, now uses them for his repairs & servicing.

That’s why they look after me.

I did speak to the mechanic and he said the job had been a PITA, so massive fair play to them.

Anyone in the SW with a VAG motor (or any car to be fair) should consider them.
