Fat Bike carrier

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Have someone idea about bikes carrier on boot door. But! I don't wanna cover number plate or rear lights because I'll go to Central Europe and covering of this part is in this countries for penalty.

Other thing is, that I can't put the bikes on roof because I'll have a roof box.

Thx

Welcome.

How heavy is the Bike?

You can easily get a Bike Rack that will put the bike high but then you pay the penalty in that it is catching the wind.

Better a rack behind the car,

or one on a Tow Ball rack and a Light Board / Number Plate.

Well. About 24kilos each bike. I'll have 2. So till 50kilis both. Trouble is that I haven't tow ball. And true is that I'm quiet nervous about wind on Germany's highways.

I have a Specialized Fat Boy it goes up high on my rack, well tied on, i would not put 2 of them on though.

Damn.

Well. Maybe better way will be put the bikes inside. Heavy stuff (like a tent , chairs and similar....) keep under bikes in car and light stuff put in roof box. Because I would like have relax on trips. Not stress, when something fall down ;-)

@chrisgreen has a bike rack on his Spaceback. I'm sure he'll give you the details.

I used to have the following hatchback-mounted bike carrier on the Spaceback: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005Q5VC92/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was a good rack and high mounted so that the bike did not cover the lights or number plate.

However, I have since replaced it with a Thule roof-mounted carrier and a set of roof bars, which in my opinion is a much better solution (as long as you remember how high the car is).

Ok. So u think that this carrier will be good for 2 Fat Bikes? Because it's till 50kilos weight.

It should be OK, but I can’t say for certain as I only ever carried one bike on mine.

if you are concerned about the weight on the tailgate, go for a roof option.

But that's a problem. Because I need roof box.

Well. No worries. I'll do like I said.......bikes IN

The Tyres / wheels will cover the lights.  Taking Front Wheels off might help.
