Red oil warning light

Featured Replies

Hi Folks.

Probably been asked before.Car serviced regularly and recommended oil used.A couple of weeks ago my oil warning light started flashing red,5 flashes then a gap for 5 seconds then repeat. My mechanic changed the Oil Switch? but the problem has restarted.I've parked the car up & will hopefully get it fixed later in the week.Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what's causing this.Car was serviced, including new oil filter & oil change 4-5 weeks ago.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome.

So what engine?

Is the correct oil spec used.  You say it is, so was it VW504-507 FS LL,  or VW502 00 FS.  Did you supply it, or was it serviced at a main dealers

so the Long Life oil used.

  ???

Is the correct oil filter on and not too tightly on?

Reason i ask,  rather too common with engines after a Oil & Filter service, and the filter is too tightly on.

Thanks for your speedy reply.Car is Fabia 1600TDi.Car is serviced by same mechanic I've used for years,He recommends 5w30 synthetic & uses same.He supplies everything.I'm afraid the oil numbers you mention here don't mean anything to me.wouldn't be like him to make a mistake wrt oil filter but I suppose accidents do happen!.

The oil will be right then if 5w 30 Full Synthetic Long life.  so VW 504 / 507 spec.

So it needs to be the Oil filter checked, that it is the correct one, the rubber seal is on correctly, and the old one not still left on,

and not over tightened.

This was a 1.2 TSI petrol, but the same has happened on diesels.
