New to Skoda. Help identify engine.

Featured Replies

Hello folks, i have got skoda superb. She is 2007, 2.0 tdi. But not 16 valve. She is 8 valve. Will have to do some engine repair, as i boughti it  as is, and knew there is engine problem. I am handy with spanners, and pretty much familiar with vag group engines.

But havent seen 2.0 tdi 8 valve engine, have to get an engine code first.

Any idea ?

Ps. Can i put link to youtube with video , where you could see and hear running engine ?

Thanks

Try the wheel well, under boot floor

Probably a duplicate of the sticker in the handbook

Should have the 3 character codes of engine and options fitted

Once you have the codes can look it up on internet

Cant remember order, but I think first is body type, 2nd is engine, 3rd is gearbox, then there is a paint colour, and options

Is it possible to do straight swap with let say avf engine ?

It usually says the engine code on the sticker on the timing belt cover

Whats the problem with your engine?

The 2.0pd is know for balance shaft / oil pump drive issues (chain driven/ hex shaft)

It's also fitted with a DPF (eolys fluid needed -  not adBlue) - so it's difficult to fit another engine in its place.

Hi folks, thanks for information.

Yes, initially thats BSS engine.

So far discovered that camshaft has to be replaced and tapets, i believe camshaft bearings also need to be replaced.

Havent took oil pann yet, due bad weather, but thats on cards, remove oil pann, check bearings there, also check oil pump. When last time started car, no oil warnings on dash, also diagnostics didnt show eny warning. So oil pump probably already been replaced by previous owner, or it is on last legs, but will be checked closely.

Next question- where to buy new propper BBS engine camshaft , tappets , camshaft bearings. Does anyone know part numbers ?

Thanks.

Sounds lke a major failure - why do you think camshaft bearing need to be replaced?

These engines can have camshaft problems if the wrong oil is used - usually relating to the mechanical operation of the pd injectores though - presume yours is worse than this.

Did you say you have heard it running? What did it sound like and did the oil light go straight out?
