SmartLink compatability (Dealer info)

Featured Replies

Hello ICE experts, excuse my complete novice understanding of ICE I am asking for help deciphering dealer technobable.

I acquired a 2015 Yeti and the head unit is the Bolero 5L0035200, Hardware: H05, Software: 0138. The head unit has MirrorLink (needs activation) and I want to know if I can upgrade to the better option SmartLink (Android auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink) so that I can use Android Auto etc and the additional supported Skoda apps.

If I am reading the information correctly from the dealer I can activate SmartLink for a fee. Can any one set the record straight so I dont waste time effort or money trying to get SmartLink added to my Bolero when I can only have MirrorLink?

Here is the information from the dealer.

Thanks for any simple talking answers

Morning

Just got an answer back from Skoda parts technical, to activate the smart link function on your vehicle the cost is £137.00 all in

See below for details of this function

Only for vehicles with:

·         Amundsen infotainment system (MIB2 Standard Nav) - Fabia, Octavia, Superb, Yeti

·         Bolero (MIB2 Standard Plus) - Octavia, Superb, Yeti

Smartlink is not currently compatible with MY18 > Fabia

If the vehicle is fitted with an MIB2 infotainment system (from the list above) but SmartLink is not an option the vehicle's screen, this accessory is not compatible.

The activation is only valid and active for one vehicle. When the vehicle is sold, this activation document is to be handed over to the buyer. The activation will be restored if the vehicle is taken for repair.

The product must be activated by an authorised ŠKODA partner in accordance with the applicable regulations and without errors, using diagnostic equipment.

Part number: 000054830A

SmartLink offers a wide range of functions in terms of connectivity, navigation and entertainment. The SmartLink activation key incorporates three interfaces: MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Once a compatible mobile phone has been connected via the USB port and the SmartLink function has been activated, everything that appears on the mobile phone's screen will be "mirrored" on the vehicle's infotainment screen.

Did your question not get answered on the Yeti Owners Club forum?  ;)

The answer will remain the same, no matter where you ask the question I'm afraid.

Well, finding someone who will tell you what you want to hear doesn't make it true. The answers given over there are pretty much correct. Smart Link is not something your current unit has inside on the PCB, so it can't be activated. You need a unit with part number 5L0035200B* to get Smart Link.

Then you'll also need Component Protection coding so that it'll work, and have to pay for the Smart Link activation. If you do buy one, don't just stick it in the car and see what works as the Component Protection will lock the unit permanently and it'll be useless.

*Possibly 5L0035200A, but I'm not certain.

Thanks for the info and the heads up on the component protection which was offered for free with the purchase. I wont be going ahead with the purchase now its been confirmed from two independent sources the head unit I have is not compatible.
