19" Extreme Alloy Wheel Damage Repair Advice

Featured Replies

Fellow Brisokdians I'm turning to you again for advice.

Absolutely gutted today after parking a little to close to a curb and scratching my immaculate 19" Extreme alloys. This was as the car rolled forward when the handbrake took up the slack on a hill so the scratch is minor. However I'd like to hear your thoughts on alloy wheel repair kits as opposed to professional repair companies, as a 4 month old baby damages finances even worse than the curb did the alloy. Experience with repair kits, advice on makes, and anything else you feel is relevant is all appreciated.

Flat it off with wet and dry of varying grades and then coat it with clear :) That’s not too much of a nasty scrape, hopefully it’ll come out to your satisfaction.

As Sasha said. Make sure the area is very clean using some panel wipes before applying the clear. Halfords will do the panel wipes and clear. Use a small block of wood to sand with.

Assuming you’ll be doing this outside have the damaged part of the wheel at 12 o’clock.  When you’ve applied the clear tape a sheet of newspaper over the wheel arch so that it hangs over the area you’ve sprayed to stop dust and insects sticking to it.

Exactly as Sasha says except the golden rule with refurbishing is sand, sand and sand again.

You can't sand enough.

Thanks for all your advice everyone. I'll head to Halfords tomorrow pick up the things you mention and give it a go.

I’d say don’t worry too much. That is very minor.

You may pick up more similar scuffs in the months to come, especially with 19s.

I’d love my vRS to be perfect too, but that will rarely be the reality..... there’ll be a stone chip or three along soon.......

A new car is a second hand car very quickly! Drive it hard and enjoy the performance! (assuming vRS from the wheels)

Good luck!
