new member-almost got one-advice needed

Featured Replies

hi everybody

first time here have not currently got one but i'm in the process of ordering a new Octavia vRS for early Jan

Even better - dont have to pay for it (exept in company car tax!!!)

Looking at getting:

vRS estate black magic

cruise

parking sensors

with either tomtom or garmin sat nav

anyone got any comments about that or any advice about other options worth having?

and whens the first southern meet in the new year?

:newbie:

Hi Scrutineer + welcome!

Good choice! I'd say the headlight protectors are worth getting - only another 20 quid or something.

I use TomTom2 in my car - it's pretty damn good but a bit fiddly with all the cables trailing all over the place. Also the PDA holder you get in the box broke after about 10 uses. Is the Garmin the all-in-1 unit which sticks on the dash? If so I think its the same one Jon's got + looks excellent.

Dont know when the first meet is in the new year but hopefully will see you there!

Didn't think they were necessary. The headlamp 'glass' seems to be some sort of plastic to me (polycarbonate?).

the garmin is the all in one and looks neater but it only navigates - i wondered if the tomtom is more adaptable as u can get speedcamera downloads +the pda may be useful on its own?also do they work with postcode - I had a built in system in a Primera that didn't and it was very slow to enter the address

regarding southern meets- I go to the southern racetracks frequently (mainly brands, lydden, goodwood)so if anyone is going could meet there

Welcome to Briskoda, Scrutineer :)

There's a big-ish meet in a couple of weeks at Duxford... depending on how it goes down, we could look at doing another in that area (maybe even at Duxford again) sometime in March/April - or earlier depending on weather :D

Would somewhere like Duxford be ok for you, btw? Not too far?

Yup, polycarbonate and as tough as nails.

and as tough as nails

Seconded! Anyone who has seen the front of my car will attest to the fact that they are pretty strong, even if they do discolour slightly after many hours of driving with "dubious" bulbs.

I have the Garmin StreetPilot 3, excellent! I'd be lost without it (literally) now. Just the one lead going to the ciggie lighter, always well impressed by it and its nice to be able to swap it from car to car and the woman's voice is quite nice

Hi Scrutineer

Nice choice of car that, might just have something similar ;).

Don't know about the Sat Nav systems though but can recomend the A-Z that I got from the local Esso station for
