Removing window trim to expose B pillars

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Like many others, the plastic/foil stickers on my Fabia's B pillars is cracking and peeling away, so I've bought new ones from Skoda to replace them (quite reasonably priced at £5 each).

Well, when I came to remove the old ones, I realised I'd perhaps begun a bigger job than at first I'd imagined!

I couldn't even get started because I've no idea how to get the rubber trim (weather strips?) that surrounds the pillars off without damaging it.

Could anyone offer advice on how to do this? I've Googled it and can't find anything.

The trim surrounding the pillar seems like it's in no hurry to go anywhere - great if you want your car to be weathertight, not so great if you want to replace that pesky pillar foil!

I've attached images of the pillars and the affected area.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - many thanks!

I had a look in Hanyes manual but it offered no solution to this. I know older vehicles, generally, replied on push-fit rubber seals that may or may not have internal wires to strengthen and hold shape to the seal. There are also various clips that can hold rubber strips in situ so unless you have someone else advise you, I would try asking the local Skoda dealer, either at the front desk or pop round to the fitting bay and speak to the organ grinder, if you are able to. I ma sure they will advise you considering the fact that many people had this issue resolved under warranty anyway and you did buy the parts from them to fit.

Thanks mrgf.

Yeah, I think it is just a case of figuring out where all the clips etc. are, but as you say, it's difficult to find on the internet!
