Have I got updated Chain Tensioner?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

New to the forum and had a quick browse but can't find an answer to my question. I'm sure it's here somewhere but having no luck..

I picked up my 2011 Octavia VRS DSG 2.0 TSI just under a week ago. No issues whatsoever at the moment, touch wood, but just want to know whether my car has the 'fixed' chain tensioner as I don't want a new engine.

It's done just under 53k miles so should have plenty of life left, but seems they fail early.

How can I check whether I should prematurely get the tensioner replaced? And roughly how much will this set me back?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Won't have latest unless owner had changed. What is manafacture date on bar code on upper timing cover?

I have a late 2011 VRS TSI. I have read on this forum in the past that the latest tensioner came out early 2012. That made my decision an easy one a couple of years ago to have the latest tensioner and timing chains fitted, preventative maintenance. Cost from my local independent garage, around £650.
