Possible return to vrs...but aircon

Recommended Posts

So I'm on the verge of returning to an octy vrs having had a mk1 a couple of years ago. I've found a one owner car, low miles with some minor bodywork blemishes but nothing serious. However the aircon does not work, I've read on here it could be the compressor. The dealer has agreed that it would be regassed before I took it along with a service, but how much of an issue is the compressor if that's the case? Easy diy?

Given that the Aircon system should only be degassed by a qualified person using equipment to collect the gas (health/safety/ecological) there's not much scope for DIY.

I've read that many compressors are junked at unnecessary cost due to a small valve/sensor becoming faulty.

A cheap enough fix given the gas/oil evacuation and refill afterwards however most times the compressor as a whole is condemned and replaced.

As a rich camel jockey might say, why buy petrol to fill the Rolls when I can just buy another!

Decided against this one, the dealer wasn't prepared to budge on  price and it wasn't exactly a tidy example when it came to the bodywork! Interestingly the aircon worked on the test drive though!
