Can I use 133mhz Ram in newer machines?

Featured Replies

I have just recently got half a gig of 133 mhz ram. Can I use this with newer machines that normally use ddr300 / ddr400 type RAM? I remember something from ages ago about being able to use older with newer boards, but not newer ram with older boards....

Thanks.

no

well, don't think so anyway as you are using a DDR board and the older ram is SDRAM.

Bengie's right. SDRAM shouldn't physically fit into a DDR slot anyway...

Rob.

nope. it's sdram, not ddr ram. stick it on ebay and you'll probably make enough to buy the equivalent in ddr ram...

There were some boards that had slots for DDR as well as SD-RAM , but nothing that you'll get new now.

Just sell it and buy the right type

So even a new socket A board won't take it?

edit: Damn, looks like I can't. :thumbdwn: Oh well, Ebay it is. Its what you get when you're let loose on two PCs, one with 2 256s in and the other with 2 128s in.... TWO machines with a 128 in each.

The only board I know of that do/did this were older Athlon boards that either had only the old type, or dual sockets.

DDR has gone through a fair few speeds as well, those boards would be DDR200/266 depending on whether using a Duron/old Athlon with 100MHz bus, or the newer ones with 133MHz bus.

Later on the DDR333 came along, DDR400 and then higher still for those who OC :D

DDR2 is next, and that is yet again incompatible :D

why dont ya just try it and see what happens :D

It will fall out/over :P

it just won't plug in tig
