Bolero radio "failures"

Featured Replies

In 2014 the original owner reported a problem with the radio and it was fixed under warranty by updating the software.

Last autumn the radio would not go past the start screen on switch on. It was booked in to be fixed but on the day before I had to put in a new battery. This removal of volts to the radio for a few minutes did a reset and it then worked perfectly until today.

While driving today, the radio suddenly stopped- no sound and no action from the touch screen. Turning it on and off made no difference.

When I got home I removed the 15A fuse 8 in the under bonnet fuse box for a few seconds. This returned full functionality.

I assume this is probably a software issue and it just got screwed up and needed a reset.

Tips for others that have a radio issue:-

Don't assume it is a hardware failure, it may just need a reset

There are two fuses for the radio, one in the end of dashboard fusebox and one in the engine bay fusebox. It is this later one that removes power and forces a cold start reset

When restarting the radio, don't press the radio-on knob. If you do it will ask you for the radio security code. Just switch off again then switch on the ignition. It will probably turn on the radio with the ignition but if not, then turn the radio on with the knob. The security code will be provided from the dashboard computer automatically.

I also checked the fuse and fuse holder for dirt and poor contacts but everything was fine.

I have posted this to pass on my experience to others who have similar issues.

My 2010 SE estate had issues with the radio randomly turning itself off/ on. Happened for a long time and i read that it could be to do with the iginition swith/barrel. I didn't fancy replacing it just for the radio and got used to the odd itteruption. Funny thing is it seemed to sort itself out and hasn't happened in months, perhaps the last year. Due to change the car anytime now so not that bothered if it happens again.

With it being intermittent i put iot down to an elelctrical connection.

Just found out on another forum that you can do a reboot by holding the ON/OFF button down for 10+ seconds. I will try that if it ever happens again.
