Hi people.

 

Can anyone help me with which wires I need to connect to so I can wire a subwoofer in. 

I have tried using the mk7 golf forum and connected to the ones they say and I'm really not getting much if any sound/bass through.

I know it's the speaker wire but which ones are they behind the control unit?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you on which wires but curious as to what you're trying to do.  Are you replacing the sub on a Canton system?

No, I'm not replacing it as it was never there, I have the balero unit so need to find out which are the speaker wires so I can tap into them with a line out connection.

No offence but I wouldn't advise adding a sub that way.  A better solution would be something like:

(that's what I bought for Amundsen - you'd need to check it's the same for Bolero)

Unfortunately this is the way I have done it for the moment, I just need to know if there is some sort of wiring diagram out there or anyone with experience with actually installing one to the mk3, everyone just seems to glaze over it.

OK, curiosity has the better of me again. What are you using to power your amp and how are you going to control it using a line out?

In all honesty I just wanted it in there to give me extra bass, I thought it would give me that little bit extra bass through using the speaker wires. I've tapped into the fuse board with a line fused power cable.

What sort of sub are you adding?  If you're saying what I think you're saying - i.e. you're adding a subwoofer directly to the head unit, then I'm not sure what you've been reading on other forums but it sounds like you have your wires mixed up (pun intended).

 

Seek advice from your local incar specialist before going any further.

I see (hear) at least two issues,

first any sub typically need current and has low impedance, and the standard head unit hardly can't provide such juice,

second a sub should be best driven with a lpf music signal, to have a correct sound reproduction.

 

Which sub did you buy?

It's a Vibe SLR from a previous car I owned.

I've never really dealt with LPF's as I've always been able to change the head units in previous cars but obviously with the mk3, it's just not a viable option for me.

From reading bits on this forum, people have done it and connect straight to the high line part of the sub/amp, however I also have a low pass converter to if needs be.

Just googled for it, is it active? The slick seems to be...

Yeah it's an active one

In this case I bet it manages the low pass filtering inside, but I would anyway try stealing the signal from the woofer output. Sadly I don't know the wiring details to help you...

That's basically what I've been trying to do but I can't seem to find the right speaker wires to tap into to make the most of it.

I've got some wiring colours for you, can you please tell me a couple things;

 

- Where would you like to put your line out converter

- How many speakers does your current sound system have.. 6 or 8. So I can determine which speaker is best to splice.

 

Highly recommend splicing a speaker that's not separated down the end of the line from tweeter to woofer

Line out converter will go anywhere it needs to if that makes sense, so where ever you suggest.

I have a uk VRS so I'm sure I have a 8 including tweeters.

All sorted! It actually turns out I had messed up on a which wires I connected to and also the same on the amp. @felvo The diagram you put up made me see what I had done, although the wiring colours are wrong I understood what I had done. Thanks Felvo
