Much ado about nothing

Featured Replies

I saw a video recently on the subject of an oil drain on a Lamborghini Hurricane requiring the removal of 8 drain plugs.  They did admit that that it was only half the number for a W16 Bugatti Veyron.   BH !

I’ve lost interest.

I think in those motors all bets are off with regard to servicing.

Are there not some ferraris that require the engine to come out to change the cam belt.

Yes.

That article has actually shifted my opinion of Dacia. I'm quite put off by the annoying TV ads, but it sounds like the products themselves may be engineered in a way that appeals to me.

I’m more into the “less is more” these days but the most simple and basic vehicle sold out here is probably a Suzuki.

But Suzuki has gone and added complexity and crap, that requires more wiring and fuses,

hopefully they will continue with some basic easy to maintain vehicles but i doubt it.

Anything  basic a Skoda (VW), Dacia  (Renault) or any others that can be bought and run for years as a keeper without high servicing costs will always be welcomed by people.  Simple DIY or Independent Servicing without the need of main dealers workshops / diagnostics.

For me at my age and weak back, all these new techie things are becoming disposable white goods, George.

For me i just want a Oil Filter up top that you see when you open the bonnet, and an autobox that will do without ATF changed for 10 years,

no Diffs or Transfer box that needs any attention in that 10 years  (I will do without AWD now though)

& i would like a manual hand / parking brake with drum rear brakes.

Front Electric Windows, Lights & Wipers i switch on,  & 'A Heated Front & Rear Window, & Heated Mirrors that clearly shows you left them on.

Not too much to ask for.   Cars about from 10 years ago might have that, i want one that is new next year with those features.

I suspect Dacia will give you more than you need before long George.

Bloody uncomfortable though, tried some, but i might just go with the big barge of an estate they do rather than a van.

Easy enough to put a seat in out of a old Ford Scorpio or the likes as Taxi Drivers do.

They hold their money surprisingly well. I was looking at a few options for an 'ugly' practical car for winter and weekend trips. Most Dacias in the budget I would consider were imho overpriced for their mileage and spec.

On the flipside it's quite an endorsement of the brand if they are selling at those prices.

?

Are they selling at those prices, i see the prices see the cars for sale and still for sale.

Some seem not prepared to drop prices because they only need one buyer and there is always going to be one, sometime, maybe,

or someone arrives and the time has come and they get it nearer the price it is worth.

If they are cheap new I guess there is less depreciation to deal with when selling on.    All cars have a bedrock used price.

To me a heavily depreciated complex car, out of any meaningful warranty, has the obvious potential to be anything but a bargain, particularly if you don’t have much left in reserve.

German complexity is the point of difference from simple, boring Japanese reliability.
