Bought a Android HU, have installation questions

Featured Replies

I got myself an Android HU recently for my Mk2 FL Octavia.

However prior to installing i have a couple of queries i was hoping someone could assist with.

1. Where have people mounted the GPS antenna?

2. Where have people mounted the DAB antenna (instructions say behind the o/s A-pillar)

3. As i remove the current bolero unit, i notice the fm antenna connection/s are at the left as you pull the unit towards you (right when looking at rear of bolero), However my Android unit has these (Fakra???) double antenna connection/s over at the opposite side of the unit. Will the existing harness in the car reach?? If not can i buy an extension????

Dont want to make a start without ensuring i have all the bits and am putting stuff in the right place.

Thanks in advance

Actually the antenna connection was fine, it is on the same side. Lol. My mistake. Had to re orient the fakra connectors though. 180 degrees.

Still wondering where to fit the gps antenna though. ??

In my Passat, I ran the wire up the A-pillar on the passenger side and stuck it into the very top left corner of the windscreen.

On mine I just double sided it to the metal of the cage at the back of the HU.

I have put the dab antenna on the n/s a-pillar but towards the bottom. The dab+ box is double sided taped to the inside bottom of the hole in the dash where the head unit goes. GPS antenna has been put in the top cubby.

I have to say I am fairly impressed. However, the WiFi signal leaves a lot to be desired. But this could be due to the shoddy range of Virgin media box.

Planning on reversing camera install at the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Can I ask what Android head unit you bought? I’ve just got an Octavia like yours and am looking at options for stereo upgrade. Do your parking sensors still work and show on the HU, and the wee graphic when you push buttons on the AC? Is the sat nav any good, although I assume you can buy various ones from the google play store if it’s a fully featured droid.

Hi. It's an Erisin android 7.1.

It's pretty good to be honest. Climate control info shows up on its screen. And has an indication of any open doors. Although the lest and right side of the car are the wrong way. So when the driver's door is open it shows the passenger one being open. Lol. I have heard other units also have this issue. I suspect it's as most of the world drive in the wrong side of the road??  Lol.

I don't have parking sensors in my vRS but have managed to wire up a reversing camera. However I am beginning to wish I hadn't bothered with it due to another issue which seems to have occured regarding central locking not unlocking my boot. It now only works via the key fob. :-(((. Need more investigation on this.

if you want to move the GPS antenna, if you pull the box unit up out of the dash (very easy) then in the space behind it (closer to the screen there is a metal cross bar) I had mine on there and it worked great, then you get the little box back :-)

If you log into factory settings passcode 3368 under Can Bus you can change the doors over, also you can change the boots screen.
