Towing hitch

Featured Replies

Hello! I am tired of mounting and dismounting the roof bars on my O3 FL - I use them only for carrying by bike and I hate the noise they make and the look of the car with the bars and bike rack fitted (although I have the Thule wingbar).

So I was thinking of mounting a towing hitch ONLY to carry a suitable bike rack and have seen in some dealer's brochures there are 3 types of hitches: a fixed one, a detachable one and the electric, folding one.

Don't want to sell my kidneys so I'd say pass on the electric one.

Anyone have some pics of the detachable hitch and how easy is to mount it/remove it? Any cuts in the rear diffuser needed?

Thanks.

Westfalia Detachable is really quick to take on and off, plus it can be locked on. It’s harder to take off using the turn wheel than fit but considering it allows the original look of the car to be kept, it’s well worth the money and hassle if you are going for the towball fit. Saves your shins from a bashing too when you forget it’s there shoving stuff in and out the boot The horizontal underside of the bumper needs to be cut open to allow access for the hitch and electrics to be used but it means all the tow equipment disappears from view when not in use. The hole profile is already marked out on the inside of the bumper lower section and there are guides on here to DIY install.

Mine’s below.
