Newbie - Saving Settings

Featured Replies

Hello folks. I am three weeks in as a new Skoda owner (formerly VW). I have a 2018 190SCR L&K Tourer.

I have been experiencing some issue where the car does not seems to "remember" or "save" changes to setting I make. Example. I chose to engage Blind Spot Assist via the small central dashboard menu, or via the large setting configuration screen. It stays on for one trip. On my previous Car (VWPassat) with exactly the same facility/menu etc, the default was that the feature was permanently on and I needed to disable it.  Still, saving the setting change was never an issue. help? Advice please?

Hello @CSNick and welcome. This is not uncommon - some of the settings need to be re-set until the car "remembers" them - usually up to about half a dozen times. Are you always using the same key? If not, that will confuse the car further and take it longer to remember the settings you want enabled.

One way of dealing with it is to set up personalisation. The extracts below are from my MY17 manual, but it will be very similar.

When you make the changes next time, you need to save them via the seat memory. Then each time you start the car it will remember your selection.

Thanks Guys. I had set up two of the three keys as individual profiles. So, what I think you are saying is that the car recognises a profile to a key (working) then to save the settings into a profile in the car you (also) need to hit "set" and corresponding number key on the driver's seat...so my profile is "1" and my lady's is "2"???  Also, that the range of personalisation is wider that that in the main screen menu (such as position the reversing mirror dips to on the nearside when reversing???

Then, (and I think this is the missing link)....you need to keep re-inputting and re-saving the current profile settings by using the car memory seat mounted buttons for half a dozen times before they stick????? :D

The Skoda is a better equipped, better looking, larger and far better value car than my 2015 Passat 190SCR GT with numerous option packs...but it's one helluva lot more difficult to actually use... almost exactly the same systems made by VAG.... :giggle:

Yes, no and not really, all at the same time:biggrin:.

Personalisation via the infotainment is as per the manual extract above. You need to create a profile (which will appear in the maxi-dot when you get in the car) and assign it to a key-fob. Pressing "set + 1" or "set + 2" at the side of the seat is part of the process for the profile you have created, but the most important step is to assign the profile to the key-fob once you are happy. From memory there is an option "assign key to profile manually" (or something like that). Press it, and it will ask you to press the unlock button on the key-fob. That is what allows the car to recognise you from the fob. Then create a new profile and do the same things, using a different profile name and key-fob, for your lady. You can copy your profile to hers as a start point if you want. Remember to save her profile to her key-fob manually at the end.

Once this is done, when you choose your profile from the maxi-dot (by pressing the right hand scroll wheel) it will, if you weren't the last driver, ask you if you want the seats etc moved to your settings. Hold down the right hand scroll wheel and it will do so. It should also remember the other personalised things you want (ACC distance, Lane Assist etc), but sometimes it doesn't until you've re-activated them a few times.

If you don't have personalisation set up, setting your seat etc is done by putting everything where you want it, then pressing "set + 1". Your lady would then set it up how she wants it, and press "set + 2". But (and this is the big difference) doing it this way will not automatically update the other personalised things you might want.

If you do have personalisation set up, pressing "set +1" will make it remember any changes you have made against that profile. In this case you and your lady each have three possible seat settings, not 3 between you.

It sounds a whole lot more complicated than it is (ever tried to teach someone to swim by explaining it?:D) - the best thing to do is get in the car and have a play. Just remember to only have one key-fob in the car while you are setting a profile for that key-fob.

Well gentlemen, thanks. I am much further forward than before your kind posts. It seems repetition of the profile setting sequence, preceded by clearing down all previous settings to factory, got me most of the way. Fact is,, my blind spot detection system simply won't stay on. I get this warning message flash up so fast I can't read it and it cancels in any mode, and it certainly is not active as a saved setting in my profile. Since I find it a lot more useful than other sensor related features I am losing patience.

I must say the SCR190 tdi is a lot more effective in the 4x4 Superb than it was in a 2wd Passat. Much more effective transmission to the road. Ranted it yesterday up and down the A429 (a Roman road for those who don't know it) and had a ball!

Sounds like there is a fault Nick. Take it in to the dealer. From memory someone else on here had a similar issue which was fixed under warranty. Glad you're enjoying the car.
