fuby vrs radio change

Featured Replies

Hi everbody. :)

I`m looking to change the head unit from a single cd to a cassette and a 10 cd multichanger.

Is it a straight foward job or is it complicated I put this in and out of my previous car without any probs straight in and out. ;)

Any help would be nice has this is a new car and I don`t want to do any damage.

The unit is a sony x plod system on the back its got two iso din connectors but is it true on some vag cars you have to cut a cable for some reason.

all help will greatly recieved has i don`t want to mess things up.

Thank you

I have just finished the job it is quite easy, some people take the glove compartment out but I got away with just removing the vent above the head unit and it gave enough access to tuck the wires away when replacing, you obviously need some keys to unclip the old unit but these can be made easy enough if you don’t have a branch of Halfords handy.

You also need to swap the red and yellow cables over or as i did buy a VW ISO converter.

I`ve not yet took the radio out yet, what are the red and yellow cables for and what do they do and do i need a piece of dash if there is a gap between radio and dash?

How much was the vw connector because i`ll go to vw delar on monday to get one is there a code is the connedctor just a simple clip on to skoda wires then into radio.

cheers for the help didn`t want to mess up.

You need a piece of trim from halfords or better still a skoda dealer, to hide the gap around the new head unit where you can also get the iso plug converter, you only need to cut and swop the 2 wires which change the position of the permanant live so your settings are not lost when you turn the ignition off, but the choice is yours, it makes it easier to replace the old stereo with a converter plug like this-

And usually that is all you need, my JVC fit in nice and tight and didn't need any extra fixing points.

the converter plug only goes one way so you can't get it wrong.
