Heated windscreen not working?

Featured Replies

My front screen doesn’t work, after trying all the basic checks I put the car into my local Skoda specialist garage in Rugby who eventually diagnosed the problem of the switch on the climate control unit (all other buttons are working but not the heated windscreen).

This unit new is £622!!! Needless to say I won’t be buying one. I have found a very similar one on eBay but the number is slightly different ending in CJ and mine is BQ all the buttons are the same and the guy selling says if it doesn’t work he will refund. Does anyone have any knowledge about this item that would help me, I’m tempted to buy it and try it anyway!

I'm slightly suspicious, for a single button to fail is unusual. Do you have the path your garage took to arrive at their diagnosis?

An auto electrician should be able to repair your current unit, if it is indeed the button.

Hi

I was shown a diagram of the checks made of the circuit including switch, fuses, relay and unit. I am told there is no connection between the switch and the fuse/relay!

i have now sourced a second hand unit on a sale or return basis for £55 so it’s worth a try, I also thought it strange that the button on the unit should malfunction! The garage is a reputable garage.

SORTED!!!!

i have replaced the control unit, not a new one but a second hand one from eBay. Found one for £55 plus postage and the seller even said sale or return if it didn’t work. Found out how to remove the fascia removed four screws and three connections and swapped the unit. Works perfectly.

Great, so it was indeed the button.

A thumbs-up to your local garage for the correct diagnosis.

Absolutely, but the diy replacement is easy. But replace the airbag lead before trying or you will end up with a fault light on the dash, like me!!!
