Delivery miles

Featured Replies

Just out of interest.

If you've bought a brand new car recently, how many miles were showing on the clock when you picked it up?

My current Fabia had 14 miles showing when I bought it,which I think is  acceptable.

I would find 50 or more unacceptable. Where would be the line for you and why?

I've ordered a new Fabia, which will hopefully arrive in January, and I'm told it will be driven from one dealership to the one I'm buying from which is a 20 mile journey .

My imagination has started thinking it'll be a 19 year old apprentice who fancies himself as a Lewis Hamilton and thrashes it along the motorway with the radio on full blast and a burger king on the go. Reassure me please .

14 miles since the Transit Setting was reset.

You do not know how many miles since it left the production line.

If it is taken off a Transporter in Edinburgh and driven on Trade Plates to Glasgow that is 50 Miles, yet the car can be handed over with 14 miles on the clock.

I never knew that! It concerns me.

I would not let it bother you.

Ask the supplying Dealer / hand over person where was my car delivered to and the PDI carried out.

There are some Brokers that have cars delivered by drivers.  There are more that are on trailers or transporters.

With main dealers delivery ask the question, if they lie they can get found out.

Cars are not made of chocolate, or should not be.

My pre-reg Octavia had 11 miles on it when I picked it up. Nearly 6 months old and 5 grand off. I think for brand new unregistered that is an acceptable mileage.

@threadbear  11 miles is acceptable,

but you have no idea how many miles could have been done before it was reset to 0 miles from Transit then did 11 miles as shown at handover.

Well I'll be finding out with my new Fabia next Tuesday.

I know for a fact there'll be minimum 20 miles on the clock.

Maybe but now the car has done 22000 mile so  isn’t really relevant anymore.

Never has been that relevant many never know what their vehicle has been through before collecting.  Just as well sometimes.

Interesting finding out sometimes if the ECU needs investigated, or sometimes just the Sat Nav, or the car had a Tracker and a driver delivering does not know that.

Bmw used to set their odometers to 99,997 miles or there abouts when the vehicles were built.

This used to allow for the mechanics to do a 3 mile test drive etc so when they handed the car over to the customer it would be on 0 miles.

This was obviously back in the mechanical odometer days when they only used to read up to 100k miles.

It was 7 miles.;)
