starts, runs for 10 seconds then stops

Featured Replies

2011 Fabia Greenline 1.2 diesel, 129K. Starts ok, runs for 10 seconds then splutters a little before cutting out. Have plugged it in a handheld diagnostic with no error codes showing. Plenty of fuel coming out of the filter. Have not looked further than that. Prior to this, car had been running ok with no other symptoms.

Sounds like fuel starvation (Which you suggest is not the case) Or immobiliser issues.

Try the other key, if you have it. Then try removing and replacing the battery.

The fuel could also be contaminated so check it is actually diesel and not water other crap coming out. Try a new filter if possible.

Have you had the car off the road for a while? I ask as you say prior to this so I wondered if its been parked up a while.

There could also be blockages in the exhaust system, which may stop the engine running but I would have thought a fault would be displayed for this! (You have not deleted a previous fault, by any chance)?

I wonder if your EGR has stuck open.

Don't know how easy it is on this engine, but suggest you block off the EGR & try starting.

Good point but I'd have thought this would have shown a code at the very least. Usually would fail after warning and limp mode.

Thank you All. My wife recalls seeing the glow plug symbol light for about 15 seconds (about 5 days prior) but then it went off. Hey Ho, just had a word from the workshop that the EGR valve and cooler need replacing. Circa £400 all in.
