Which caliper, pads to fit?

Featured Replies

Hello & Happy New Year to all,

Hoping someone can help with a bit of confusion i've got over selecting correct parts for replacing a rear caliper and pads on my 2010 FL Vrs.

Been suffering from a sticking piston on the rear right caliper which has in turn worn the pads but disc seems ok. I've decided to replace the caliper myself. Never done one before but have done enough other jobs on previous cars to be reasonably confident I won't make too much of a mess of it.......hopefully

The problem I'm having is in regards to the PR number and choosing relevant parts. AFAIA, there's two possible calipers I could select; one for discs of 10mm thickness and one for 12mm.  Going by the 1KT PR number I have, mine should be 272mm/10mm thick. However, when I go to select the corresponding pads on ECP, the pads that are fitted at the moment are the same design as ones sold for code 1KP and are provided with pad clips. This is what is confusing me. According to the fitting guide, the correct selection doesnt match what I have on just now and no clips are shown in the product image. Has ECP got it wrong?  Is my code label incorrect? Or did the previous owner fit the wrong pads, although I wouldn't have thought this would be possible due to size, shape etc.

I know I could whip the wheel off and measure up,  but I'd like to order parts ASAP as ECP have their sale on now and with work, kids etc, even a quick job like that is a struggle to fit in during daylight hours the now.

Thanks in advance for any replies

I’ve just been through the same process as you, and ended up buying both sets of rear discs and pads, as I wasn’t sure whether I had the 272 or 282 discs. ECP are very good at taking returns, so that’s probably your best bet?

these should be the pads as same as golf gti and would of thought the pads should match the caplier type as the other pads look different shape

Thanks Guys,

Ended up getting the wheel off and measuring the disc on there which turns out is 282mm, so different to ECP recommendation for my PR code. Phoned them up and agent said she'll raise it as an error on the site. Strange though as I've seen the same incorrect recommendation on other sites too.

Thanks for the pic Wiilydog. That's what I've got fitted. Out of curiosity, any idea what the small notches are for at each end of the shorter length of the pad?

No idea what the little notches are but it does help me identity my brake pads as they are quite unusual

Stick the VIN in here, it gives you the PR codes for the front and rear brakes...
