4x4 Karoq in the snow

Featured Replies

And it was really good, very pleasantly surprised in some very tricky conditions. Felt very safe and secure over 16 miles of very rural hills in the snow.

Anyone else?

With winter tyres fitted my 4x4 was great this morning.

I've been wanting to test the 4 wheel drive since I got the car last November but we've not had much snow which is very unusual for my location.

This morning we had about an inch so I put my foot down in a couple of empty bits of road so see what happened and the result was lots of grip. TC light came on once but it didn't feel like the wheels were spinning at all. Had to lift the foot to ensure I could slow down.

The acid test will be more snow on a bigger incline but so far so good.

@Cd1yat,  What tyres are on your Karoq?

Standard Bridgestone a supplied last May on the car. Very pleasantly surprised bearing in mind other experiences reported on here.

It was genuinely poor weather with inches of snow and slush at 0 -1c and there where no issues apart from one chirp from the ABS at the bottom of a steep hill.

Snow mode does seem to make a difference but it makes the steering feel really heavy

Good luck with the Bridgestone Duelers.  It is good that you found them OK.

I drove a Diesel & Petrol 190ps Ateca on them last winter in serious conditions and they were dire.

This is to dampen steering inputs. Sudden steering movements, sharp braking and heavy acceleration are the things that break traction in snow / ice, so snow mode dampens these and changes the shift pattern to be more gentle on DSG. Good to know your car worked in the snow. Ours is in having some warranty work done, so we are trying the snow mode in a Freelander II (replacement vehicle provided by Skoda Assist!) today.

I had guessed that would be the reason. Sheet ice and -5 tonight and still very secure.

Very pleased with 4x4 but even more pleased with the heated steering wheel
