To date I have upgraded my audio system as such

Sony CDX-F7750 Head unit and

Infinity 6512i Front Speakers

I was looking at adding some 6x9's in the parcel shelf.

I have one concern with regards my set up at the moment. The front speakers dont kick out much bass. If I switch loudness on my headunit (which I dont do anyway) the sound becomes distorted, especially at high volumes.

I dont listen to dance/house so its not too much of a problem. My musical taste is mostly hardcore / metal / punk. Even so, one of the great parts of this music is from the bass drum.

Does this sound about right? Would I be getting this distortion, and what would be the next best step to take with regards furthur upgrades?

If you go for the parcel shelf mounted speakers, I'd suggest reinforcing the shelf otherwise the whole lot will resonate. Or better still make a new shelf out of a sheet of 18mm MDF covered it in black acoustic cloth with the speaker recessed in from below for a stealth look.

The existing front speakers may be causing the door trims to resonate – sound deadening material may improve things.

If you are going to do that, why not go the whole hog and fit 6x9 subs?

Kendwood do an active set that will run off speaker wires or RCA pre-out. KFC-WDA69RC. Shop around for prices...

Other than that, try Genesis 6x9 subs (will need an amp. though).
