I am looking to change the gear-k**b on a fabia ambiente, on some websites they are saying that you have to buy a specific one as the skoda has a strangley shaped shaft (ooh err misus,!!!!!!) is this tue or can you fit the ones advertised as universal, also any ideas on brightening up the handbrake.

Doco:confused:

for some reason the site dosn't like the word kn*b

Universal ones should have a grub screw fitment which when the **** is on the shaft (don't say a word :) ) is screwed in so it grips and keeps the **** in place.

Be careful wich you choose as some dont allow for the leather gaitors to attach at the top.

hey i only typed kn0b with an o..................................

Thanks for the info, I have fitted Kn**bs to both Fords and suzuki's and am familiar with the grub screw fitting, but being new to the world of the Scud I was concerned when I saw a MOMO item on a website and it said these are the only ones that fit properly on skoda/seat,vw as an adaptor is required.

cheers

Not sure if there's any difference between the Octy and Furby stick but I fitted a Momo one to both a Oct 1 & 2. It fixes with grub screws - just needed to select the correct size insert. To get around the leather gaitor problem, I rolled the top of the gaitor over and glued it with hot melt. I slide a large rubber grommet onto the shaft first which holds the gaitor against the kn0b - looks neat and OE.

Apparently the price of that part has now been increased in line with the remainder of the gear kn0bs available from VW ie
