A/C Compressor dying

Featured Replies

Hi,

Our 2010 (120k miles) Superb's A/C has been taking a while to put out cool air (its summer here in NZ) and occasionally puffing out burst of warm air in between the cold.

Our mechanic has said the compressor is on the way out and there are two options, repair or replace. Both are very expensive (500-800GBP) so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience?

I'm thinking replacement is a better option given that a new compressor is about 200GBP (expensive to post to NZ though). What else needs doing at the same time, TX valve receiver/dryer???

Thanks in advance,

Matt

It may be the compressor but It might be as something simple as a re-gas.

Instead of a local mechanic I'd let an aircon specialist look at it - get this wrong and it can be an expensive chain of events.  Frequently it can be just the compressor control valve or as mentioned above it might just need a re-gas.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Our mechanic subcontracts the AC work to a specialist, but agreed I will get a second opinion on this.
