Canton system control

Featured Replies

Just got our new (to us) mk3 superb with the canton upgrade.

none of the standard canton presets really float my boat, classical is about the best, but the treble is a little too loud, and there's some funny Time alignment or something going on that leaves me feeling a bit odd when listening to the system.

is there any way to get into the nuts and bolts as it were and actually control the EQ, crossovers, levels and time alignment so i can get something a little more to my tastes out of it?

Thanks!

has anyone gone about replacing canton with an aftermarket setup using the superb head unit?

I don't know if this is still relevant, but I've got rid of the Canton Sub and amp and I'm using a Dayton Audio DSP, 3 Hifonics amps and 2 Rockford subs.  I'm currently still using the standard speakers.

At first I tried using a summing line out converter to take all of the Canton amp's front channels and outputting a full range signal.  When it worked, it was great, but every now and then the amp would realise there were no speakers attached and refuse to output anything.  I tried adding resistors and all sorts, but I couldn't get it to work reliably.  I ended up using ODBEleven to enable the full renge speaker outputs from the main stereo in the glove box.  They go to the DSP which has speaker level inputs.  It works, but it's a compromise. In an ideal world I'd buy one of these, but divorces are expensive.

If you do go down this route, remember the mid-bass speakers in the front doors are 8-ohm, so you'll need more powerful amp on them.

Hope that helps.
