Dipped and main beam bulb options

Featured Replies

Hi all, I just wanted to see if anyone is running 'performance' bulb upgrades at all?

I've been driving my wifes car for a few days now (2011 Monte Carlo) and one thing I've noticed is how poor the headlights are. Full beam is passable but dipped lights are terrible. We spend a lot of time driving on country lanes where we live, at peak commuting times, so a lot of driving is done on dipped lights in the winter. She had a MK V golf before which had clouded headlamps and even they were better!

I've been looking at Philips Racing Vision or Bosch GigaLight 120+ as options. Is anybody running them, and if so is the difference discernible in comparison to standard bulbs?

I was also looking at the GE Megalight Ultras but reviews seem to have them lasting next to no time at all.

All help and opinions are much appreciated.

I to noticed the poor lights.....so fitted Philips extreme power bulbs, made a significant difference to mine, I also have them in my Land Rover.

I fitted a pair of H7 Ring Zenon + 150% into the dipped beam projectors (£29.99 from ABD.co.uk) which have a six month guarantee with them. Instant improvement from the Bosch + 120% that  were fitted.  I'm ordering another set for the main beam. *I've just checked and they have been reduced to £24,99.

Put these in and they are very bright (my headlights are film tinted) so it loses a bit and the headlight design is very poor anyway.

An MOT pass though which is good, i still just need main beam on / off on country lanes, so they are not a nuisance to anyone.

Thanks for the info, although not sure about these not being Road legal when there are other comparative bulbs which are. I appreciate yours passed the MOT but I think I'll stick with legal bulbs to be sure.

Might have to give these a go, all of them are similarly priced but the before and after photos for these are quite compelling. Just hope they don't burn themselves out just after the 6 months is up!

Just as an observation,  I have a CitiGo courtesy car at the moment....the dipped beams on that are also really poor, even seeing basic changes in road direction is tricky without full beams....seems it's a Soda thing that they can't design a decent non HID headlight!
